Lecture Award for

CHENNAI APRIL 10 . The Jaeger Lecture Award of the International Institute of Welding (IIW) and International Standards Organisation (ISO) has been conferred on Baldev Raj, Director, Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, Kalpakkam, in recognition of his contribution to welding and `hard facing'.
The research work of Dr. Raj, the first Indian to receive the award, led to a substantial cut in cost and plant downtime. The IIW is a premier body consisting of experts from 30 countries, and formulates welding directions and policies.
Dr. Raj has also received the Lifetime Achievement Award for 2004 from the Indian Welding Society.
